radiation

Interesting link that my biochem lecturer sent out to us to give us a clearer picture on the magnitude on the nuclear explosions going on in Japan.

And Dr Michio Kaku giving an insight of the science behind the nuclear reactors.

mojo jojo

some_text

I'm on a holiday mood and that's not good.
Exams are inching their way towards the unprepared, making me feel vulnerable.
Yet I have been doing absolutely NOTHING this week.
I'm angry at myself - you idiot stop doing nothing!
I NEED my mojo back!!!!!

*and yes I am aware that this post isn't really going to help me :( *

my new sensation

Was never very interested in The Beatles until of late (I know, shame on me!) well, I'm really into them now! (maybe not as hardcore as those screaming girl fans)
Keep on hitting the replay button (and that's a rare thing for me to do!!)
Wasn't sure which song to share (there are just so many good ones! :O) but since this song was playing non-stop in my head when I was conducting my lab experiment today I guess this deserves a spot here :)
Enjoy!

photo week 12

"Fall back, spring forwards"
During autumn, the clocks go back, during spring time however..
Tomorrow the clocks go forward by an hour!
On another note, stop and smell the flowers! :)

The 4 beings

the sea took deep, long breaths
it greeted the shore with eager pounces
thin white clouds with bizarre conformations danced in the sky
the complacent sun strolled across the blue which eventually became scarlet
then the clouds caught fire, and finally they turned to ember as the sun left the sky
the curious stars peeped from above, gazing down at the aftermath
the sea breathed softly now, it snored lightly
the stars sniggered with the charred clouds
spontaneously creating melody, and harmony

64 days left

Timetable just released!
My heart is pumping anxiety through my veinssss

photo week 11

Majestic yet sedate, it stands right opposite my hall.
It beckons me to lie face-up on that bench, to stare at it, to stare past it.

chiming childhood

So the weather's getting pretty warm these days. It wasn't a surprise to hear an ice cream truck singing its way down the university halls. Uni students and ice cream trucks with an appealing tune - I found this rather disharmonising.

Why?
I just somehow associated ice cream with children (especially the tune of the ice cream truck, it is to blame really - the ones normally shown on TV, not the typical matkool or paddle pop ice cream jingles at home. It makes ice cream sound more childish).

Oh...and I had my first ice cream sundae from an ice cream truck today ( i know..some childhood I had huh?)

sunsets and other wonders

I've been watching sunsets in my room almost everyday since I got here. And I noticed that the sun has been setting at different positions. It seems that it was moving towards the right as time has gone by.
And then I stumbled upon a documentary on BBC iPlayer, hosted by Professor Brian Cox, where he talks about time, and how it shapes the universe.
What I learnt -

some_text

This is a temple in Chankillo, Peru.
Each tower represents one month, you're looking at the oldest solar calender here!
This works for sunrises as well.
It's amazing how humans of different eras measure time. Positioning of shadows, flowing sand, gears etc etc.
So why can time be quantified? because it's one of the dimensions in this universe? What makes a dimension, a dimension?
According to wiki,

"In mathematics and physics, the dimension of a space or object is informally defined as the minimum number of coordinates needed to specify each point within it"

Following the song in Rent, Seasons of Love -
How do you measure love?
How to measure emotion? Why is it so difficult?
Everybody has their own different dimensions of emotions?
This is driving me crazy. As if my work hasn't been doing enough damage.

Hustles and bustles

I know I haven't been blogging since forever, and I'm not gonna blog where I left off. Too many things haha.

Anyways last night I watched this musical -Rent with my Bristolian peeps. I enjoyed it very much (though I can't even remember half of the names of characters!) The casts were students..how very talented! I've only watched 2 musical productions in my life. The first one was The Mikado where I was involved backstage in school. It was a very colourful production, visually and auditorily. Since then, musicals started to appeal to me. The second was The Phantom of The Opera which I watched in London. It was out of this world, extravagant!

This is my favourite scene

Today the sun is shining, it's ten degrees (relatively warm) and there are people playing frisbee and sun bathing out of my window view. I just can't wait for exams to end!! I want my freedom now! Lying under the sun with no worries what so ever..like that fat cat which lives in my hall, Mr. Waffles! (yep he has a freaking fb page! Read his info - very cute)

Okay my timetable is pretty much messed up because of this sudden urge to blog. Need to finish my tutorial!

'day' dreaming

The moon was just a thin line in the sky. I guess I can be a bit daft to think of it as a floating banana. Or 'the grin of the night'
The smile, almost isolated in the everlasting secrecy of the night, beamed at me through the aperture of my little square, white room.
Suddenly my room felt as boundless as the night sky.
